The project “A Study in Explanatory Power” is generously funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. In its first phase (2012-2018) the project focuses on the connection between metaphysical dependence, the semantics and pragmatics of explanation, and the epistemology of understanding. In its second phase (2018-2021), it is concerned with philosophical perspectives on explanations of social phenomena, taking into account classical theories, partly developed in the social sciences, as well as new approaches in the philosophy of science and social ontology.
